Windermere

Windermere is one of the nicest small towns in Florida.  This small town was in the heart of one of the largest citrus regions in the world,  many grew citrus to offset the land investment and after a series of bad winters sullied the crops, the town re-emerged as a resort area  in the early 1900s.

Even though the main drag is paved, most of the residential streets are not, and they are dotted with Quaint historic buildings, many with historic designations, like the charming 1890 Windermere Schoolhouse and its Town Hall, built around 1923.

 Living in Windermere offers residents a sparse suburban feel and most residents own their homes. It is known as a town of artists since it has more artists than 90% of the communities in America. This high concentration of artists  helps shape Windermere’s character. Windermere has also  been home to many of Orlando’s celebrity residents; from PGA superstar Tiger Woods to NBA heavy-hitters Shaquille O’Neal and Dwight Howard and Joey Fatone of NSYNC fame.

 

But you don't have to be an artist or a celebrity to live here. Many families with children live here, so there are many family oriented services and groups.  The town’s highly rated public school district and large population of college-educated adults provide an environment conducive to academic values.

 

With regard to real estate, Windermere has a high rate of owner-occupied single family homes, which tends to reflect stability in the local community. It is best known for its fabulous homes, exclusive gated communities, and Sparkling three-bedroom townhomes. With  Most of its borders being lakefront, many homes have a fascinating view to one of the 13 interconnected lakes on the  4,720-acre chain.
